In Pursuit of Adaptation to Unwanted Change

I create both sculptures and paintings that explore near-realistic forms and colours. My main subjects are people and animals, which have, in different ways, shaped my understanding of life. I am very observant and curious about my surroundings, constantly trying to learn and understand the reasons behind the existence of things through their materials, forms, and histories.

My upbringing, shaped by unwilling constant change and the need to adapt to new surroundings, has influenced my artistic practice leding me into meeting many different artists and learning different artforms in wich i have never settled into one distinct style or form. I explore different techniques and mediums as part of my pursuit of adoptation to the changing situation. For me, creating a new artwork means exploring, experimenting, and experiencing the possibilities and limits of different materials and techniques.

Sometimes a deliberate controlled mistake gives me more satisfaction than simply following the rules. I see mistakes and unexpected results as part of the jorney and opportunities to discover something I might not have found otherwise. This approach allows me to experiment without asking myself, “What if I had done that?” at the end.

Working with my hands and pursuing new experiences through form and colour gives meaning to my life. I make sculptures by carving directly into stone, modelling clay, and casting in various materials, including ceramic, bronze, and concrete. I also incorporate digital processes into my practice, using 3D modelling programs to develop forms that can later be 3D printed and used to create moulds.

In my paintings, I primarily use oil and acrylic on canvas. For some works that require physical depth, I create reliefs using expanded polystyrene and combine them with acrylic painting. Across both sculpture and painting, I enjoy moving between traditional and contemporary processes and allowing the characteristics of each material to influence the final work.

Ultimately, I want viewers to first encounter something of my life and experiences through my work. I hope they can then see the works through my perspective and perhaps connect them to their own experiences of life.
